History to the present day
Built in 1905 on the site of an old coaching Inn, the hotel is located in the heart of the city centre, overlooking the old town square. It is ideally situated for popular historical attractions including Hadrian’s wall, Carlisle Castle and Cathedral and the delights of the Lake District are just a stone’s throw from the hotel.
Food and Drinks
Breakfast is served from 7.00am-10.00am with either a Full English Breakfast or Continental Breakfast.
In the Railway Tavern Bar an extensive menu is served all day offering anything from a light snack to a hearty main meal with a selection of hot drinks and pastries. A Buffet lunch is served daily from 10.00am-2.00pm in the Peace & Plenty Restuarant offering a selection of sandwiches, jacket potatoes and main courses or a traditional Sunday lunch menu. Dinner is served from 6.30pm-9.30pm with a Table d'Hote menu of English and Continental cuisine.
A Room Service Menu offers a selection of light snacks and hearty main meals available 24 hours a day. The evening Table d’Hote Menu can also be taken in your room between 6.30pm-9.30pm.

Directions: From the South: M6 exit junction 42 take A6 into city centre (approximately 2 miles). Proceed up Botchergate taking left-hand lane through the traffic lights at the railway station. At the twin round towers of the Citadel, proceed straight ahead into English Street, taking the left-hand lane (one-way system) to the next traffic lights. Turn left at the lights, then a sharp right into Blackfriars Street (between Chapmans furnishers and Natwest Bank). The hotel car park and rear entrance is at the end of Blackfriars Street, CA3 8HB. There is a bell to the right-hand side of the car park gates.
From the north: M6 exit junction 44 take A7 into city centre (approximately 1.5 miles). At the Hardwick Circus round about follow the signs for city centre following the one-way system. At the twin round towers of the Citadel, proceed straight ahead into English Street, taking the left-hand lane (one-way system) to the next traffic lights. Turn left at the lights, then a sharp right into Blackfriars Street (between Chapmans furnishers and Natwest Bank). The hotel car park and rear entrance is at the end of Blackfriars Street. There is a bell to the right-hand side of the car park gates.
