Introduction
Situated in the heart of the Weald of Kent in an area of outstanding natural beauty, Godwin House is just one mile east of the ancient village of Cranbrook, the smallest town in Kent and one of its prettiest. Godwin House lies in the lustrous countryside minutes from ancient Cranbrook and Sissinghurst Gradens. Only 40 minutes drive (30miles) from the Channel Tunnel so is an ideal place to stop on your journey to or from Europe.
Rated with over 30, 5* awards on Trip Adivisor, stay in either the Oast House or Garden Cottage which are both detached from the main house and offer total privacy. The Oast House, England's oldest is steeped in Kent's history and rural life but with en-suite comfort, fine furnishings, King sized sleigh bed and mod cons including satellite television, sleigh bed, Wi-Fi, i-pod docking, DVD with a choice of films. It is a Kentish experience evoking the best of times past and present. Garden Cottage is built in a traditional Kentish style with a peg tiled roof and weatherboarding, original beams and antique furniture. It offers spacious accommodation with separate comfortable seating and modern facilities such as Wi-Fi, twin i-pod docking, freeview television, DVD player and library of films.
History to the present day
Built in 1580, Godwin House is a largely intact, listed, Elizabethan farmhouse, set in lovely grounds looking across its own meadows. It includes what's said to be the oldest oast house in England, a 16th Century building rebuilt in 1740 and listed in its own right.
Food and Drinks
Full English breakfast is served in the main house in an original Tudor morning room complete with beamed ceiling and antique furniture. In the summer months breakfast can be enjoyed on the patio, overlooking the splendid gardens.
Food comes from local suppliers including eggs from the nearest farm. The bread is homebaked in Godwin House, hot from the oven that day and served with locally made jam and marmalade. Bacon and sausages come from farms round about. Vegetarian and vegan diets are also catered for.
Grounds and gardens
Outside patio and gardens available for guests which also have views over the countryside.
