Introduction
Plas Derwen is the most charasmatic and historical Country House in the area. Plas Derwen (which translates as Oak Hall in English), is a grade II listed building situated at the western end of the scenic and historic Dee Valley.
Set within five acres of secluded garden and rolling fields, with magnificent views over the River Dee and valley, Plas Derwen offers a friendly, peaceful and tranquil setting.
Choose from double and family rooms with many original features such as Georgian windows, antique furniture, exposed beams, marble fireplaces and Victorian style baths.
History to the present day
The house was lovingly restored in the early 1980s and has the added attraction of a former coach house and out buildings, including the double seater outside toilet (although no longer in use of course!)
The house was built in the late 1700s and was home to rectors of Corwen Church until 1982. A very important house for the local Parish, Bishops and other Church dignitaries who would have been accommodated here. It was originally a farmhouse and in 1830 was given as a gift to the Anglican Church
Food and Drinks
Large cold buffet breakfast served which includes fruit juices, fresh fruit, a range of cereal, fruit compot, yogurts, cheese, toast and preserves and freshly made tea and coffee. Breakfast is served in the traditional dining room with antique furniture, pitch pine floors and large georgian windows. During the cold winter months a coal fire is lit to make the dining room a cosy and relaxing room. A fully cooked English/Welsh breakfast is available at a small additional cost.
A welcoming guest lounge which has a large screen TV/DVD and during the winter months a cosy coal fire. It makes the perfect place to sit and relax and plan your next day’s outing.
Grounds and gardens
The grounds of Plas Derwen include fields, stream, dry stone walls, mature gardens, woodlands and orchards. Being on an elevated position there are magnificent views over the River Dee and beyond.
Discover the ancient oaks, relax with a drink in the outdoor seating area.

Dr Peter Boyle, April 2013: I can recommend this place strongly. The house is beautifully kept, full of character, and with excellent amenities. We had the use of a lovely lounge, the bedroom and bathroom were comfortable and charming, as was the breakfast room. Finally the site and surrounding scenery are stunning. 5/5
Miss Jaclyn Regan, May 2011: Plas Derwen Country House was a lovely place to stay from the moment we arrived to the time we left we felt warmly and overly satisfied. The breakfast was to die for as was the surrounding natural beauty. 5/5
